Internships
Attention Students!
Editorial internships. We have editorial internships open to high school seniors and recent graduates majoring in Journalism or English. Interns are responsible for fact-checking, proofreading, research, and occasional writing. Candidates should exhibit strong grammar and writing skills. Internships are available year round. Please send a cover letter indicating your interest in our publications and describe your career goals. Also, include a resume with two letters of recommendation and two writing samples.
Art & Design internships. Art/design interns should have knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (CS). Familiarity with Mac OS X is also helpful, but not entirely necessary. Responsibilities include: organizing and collecting art and photos for publication, observing and possible assistance on photo shoots, image processing, occasional design and layout using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Applicants should submit a sampling form their portfolio, as well as a cover letter describing your career goals, a resume, and two letters of recommendation.
Publishing internships. Interns have the opportunity to learn the many different facets of magazine publishing and media marketing. This includes production, marketing, sales, public relations, event and database development, and accounting and business planning. Interns assist in creating and executing communications and marketing strategies, researching and assembling mailings, arranging public relations activities, updating Web sites, and coordinating other events. If you're interested in a publishing internship, submit a cover letter with our career goals and a resume to us. Mention a specific area of publishing, if possible (i.e., "I'm specifically interested in developing and applying marketing strategies in advertising for print and media.").
A minimum of 15 hours of work per week is required. Positions are unpaid, but offer invaluable experience in all aspects of magazine journalism. When possible, YOUnique Publications will assist interns in arranging academic or work-study credit.
